'Simple Gift'
I attended a wonderful child's birthday party. The day was all about friends, family and having fun. It was such a treat and a gift to everyone attending.

'Simple Gift' is the end of the first dozen in the Fifty-Nine Apples Series. Each painting is a 6 by 6 inch oil painting on canvas panel.

'Wrap One'
'Wrap One' is the eleventh painting in my series of
Fifty-Nine Apples. This painting is a shout back to when fruit was wrapped in tissue paper for boxed transport.

'Gala with UPC'
'Gala with UPC' is the tenth oil painting in the Fifty-Nine Apples series. I left the Universal Price Code on this apple. I have a simple time lapse of 'Gala With UPC', and the time lapse videos of he Fifty-Nine Apple Series so far

The daily paintings are painted on stretched canvas. When they are ready for varnish I mount them on quarter inch birch plywood. The painted canvas covers all the sides and on the back I attach a flush hanger so that the painting is ready to hang with or with out a frame. Also on the back I name the painting and sign.

'Gala'
'Gala' is the ninth painting in the 59 Apples series. I am so pleased with the progression of this series. My appreciation of the subtle warm color variations has increased with with each apple. I do however feel a little guilty about the amount of time I spend at the apple display in the grocery store and and then check out with one apple.

This is the eighth  painting in my series of fifty-nine apples. The painting of this simple fruit is moving me to explore color theory and literally the way I lay oil paint on canvas.
Photographing the resulting oil painting is continuing to frustrate me. Glad the painting is a joy.

'Pink Lady'

'Pink Lady' is the sixth in the '59 Apples' series. Choosing a pale background has moved a lot of light around the apple and decreased the degree of shadow/light difference.
I tried to make a time lapse video of the painting, but the video is very poor. View video here:

Sedona Orchids

'Sedona Orchids'
24 by 36 inches
I just saw that I had posted a photo of this painting while I was painting. This is just a photo I took as I finished this and the paint was very fresh so the darks reflected a lot of light back at the camera. The bad camera work leads me to believe the photo was taken late at night and I was tired.
'Bite Out of Rome'

This is the fifth  painting in my series of fifty-nine apples. I decided to take a bite! My family thought this painting was pretty funny...I hope you enjoy it. Sorry there is no video with this one my battery is dead I was lucky to get an image to post on the blog.

'Fugi'

6 x 6 inch
Oil on canvas panel
Fourth painting in a series of fifty-nine paintings of apples.

Why chose apples for the subject?  Of the several reasons I think the apple gives variation and yet a meditative simplicity was the deciding factor. While I paint I rarely think 'apple'. Usually I am connecting with the brush, paint and surface. Envisioning mentally, before the brush touches canvas. At times the apple subject
gives me a little charge when I think how many artists over the centuries have contemplated this simple/fascinating form.

Steam Punk Object

Decatris Blunderbuss Sketch
Arduino Workshop BayCon 2013

My brother, Larry, an electrical engineer conducts workshops at Steam Punk/Scifi conventions. He has attendees  building light sabers, electronic puzzle boxes, I am not sure what you would call all of his projects. But he helps the attendees to do the wiring and assembly and up to now has been using found objects (not trash but  parts he has purchased from other sources).
He has now assembled a collection of moulding and casting products and wants iconic objects to animate with his electronics. This is the working sketch I came up with to accommodate his electronics and suit the convention theme.
Now we are working out the 3D master sculpting of 'Decatris Blunderbuss'.

RED DELICIOUS

'Red Delicious

'Red Delicious' is the first in a series of fifty-nine original oil paintings of an apple. I am attempting to connect with the immediate nature of painting through these small alla prima works. One down 58 to go....

Painting time lapse slideshow:
I also hope to improve my time lapse technique and I apologize for the crudeness of this time lapse. I have ordered a digital timer but until it arrives and I learn how to use it I will be photographing by hand.
